ACT! was co-founded by Pat Sullivan, president, and CEO of Contact Software International in 1985. ACT was developed to solve a personal need for a business tool that would help manage all aspects of a salespersons customer relationships. CSI oversaw the evolution of ACT! until 1993 when CSI sold ACT! to the Symantec Corporation for $45 million dollars. ____________________________ACT!'s Timeline______________________________ ACT! 1.0 for DOS was released in 1987 by CSI and it was one of the industry's first contact managers and quickly became the market leader. ACT! 1.0 for Windows was released in May, 1992 and was the first major contact manager to be released on the Windows platform. ACT! 2.0
for Windows was released by Symantec Corporation in March,
1994 and added network support, e-mail support, as well as other
enhancements. ACT! Mobile Link, an add-on for ACT! 2.0 for Windows,
was released in March, 1995. ACT! 3.0
for Windows 3.1/Windows 95/Windows NT was released in November
1996. ACT! 3.0 brought ACT!s superior contact management
software to the 32-bit platforms of Windows 95 and Windows NT.
Enhancements included a completely graphical drag and drop user
interface, extensive database customizability and over 100 new
product enhancements. ACT! 3.0 included the most extensive built-in
synchronization of any contact manager. ACT!s synchronization
allows for two-way merging of contact, history, and activity information
from mobile salespeople into a central ACT! database without having
to purchase any additional products. ACT!
4.0 for Windows was released in March of 1998. ACT! 4.0 enabled
users to more efficiently and effectively turn their contacts
into relationships and their relationships into results. ACT!
4.0 provided the most extensive e-mail compatibility of any contact
manager, delivered useful information found on the Internet directly
to the users desktop, provided superior integration with
market-leading WinFax PRO, introduced an independent SideACT!
for entering to-dos inside or outside of ACT!, improved
the usability, reliability and administration of synchronization,
and delivered countless other innovative and easy to use features.
Then the Release of ACT! 2000 ... In December
1999, Pat Sullivan the CEO of Interact Commerce Corporation announced
an agreement to acquire ACT! from Symantec Corporation. This marked
the return of ACT! to it's creator. |
